Stepping up an age group to compete in the Under 20 National Junior Athletics League in Hendon, North West London, Richard Goodman, 16, cut his 1,500 metres personal best by two seconds to 4:03.63.

Competing for Shaftesbury Barnet against seven other clubs, Goodman’s finishing drive over the last 300 metres took him 20 metres clear of the field by the finish.

Clubmate James Grant, 18, came second in the Under 20 Middlesex Championships pole vault, achieving a height of 4.00 metres.

Nathaniel Lane of Cardiff last month recorded 8:44.37 for 3000m in a Welsh Athletics Open meeting and 15:09 for 5K in a Welsh Masters League road race.
