Gastwirth frustrated after latest MJSL setback

Mike Gastwirth believes Reich are fast becoming their worst own enemies after their latest defeat in the MJSL.

Leeds Maccabi came from two goals down to secure a dramatic comeback victory.

Max Berkley and Gastwirth struck to give Reich a clear first-half advantage.

But the game turned on its head as Leeds Maccabi came roaring back at Fredrick Road with Jake Sorkin, Raphael Kaye and Tim Sortie replying.

“We lost the game by letting them back in the game with some poor defending," bemoaned Reich director of football Gastwirth.

“It's frustrating as we should have scored another two or three goals and that would have killed the game off.

“I was pleased with the first-half performance as it showed we are now competing with the top teams.

“We made some changes in the second half but it affected the rhythm of the team.

“We still had chances but once Leeds scored the equaliser, they looked the more likely to score a third and win it.”

Leeds are in second spot but their hopes have taken a knock in recent weeks after a run of poor results.

Boss Adam Kristall hailed the self-belief of his players for launching the stirring fightback.

He said: “It would have been easy for heads to drop but we never give in.

“The boys were rewarded in the end in coming back from behind twice and showed true grit and determination to win the game.

“It came at a good time going in to the winter break as we hadn’t won a game for nearly two months.

“We had a patched up side and some new faces but we were all buzzing at full time and looking forward to a more consistent second half of the season.”

Sedgley Park Celtic went goal crazy after earning a 12-1 win over Prestfield.

It keeps the MJSL new boys in the title hunt, powering their way up to third and five points behind leaders Haroldeans.

A hat-trick from Saul Shapiro and a brace from Nathan Pitt helped contribute to a painful day out for Prestfield.
