CYRIL ANEKSTEIN CUP QUARTER-FINAL
JEWDINESE 0 HMH 4
This was game played in a cup-tie spirit. Jewdinese came with a plan to defend deep and hit star striker Reiss Mogliner on the break. But HMH had other ideas.
For 30 minutes, Jewdinese weathered the HMH storm, although the visitors were denied two goals - both headers from the towering Jake Norton one adjudged offside, the other for a push. Other chances went begging as Sammy Kingston from long-range and Natey Kashket clean through both went narrowly wide.
However, after 30 minutes Jewdinese could not continue to keep HMH out and a super cross from Clark Norton was met with a majestic header by Adam Ellis to open the scoring.
Jewdinese did manage a couple of forages into the HMH area, with one dangerous cross flashing across the goal and with Moligner's only shot saved by Jacob Shapiro. It remained 1-0 at half-time.
Jewdinese threatened briefly at the beginning of the second half and Shapiro was called into action as a corner went close, but from then on it was one way traffic as HMH piled on the pressure creating chance after chance, scoring a further three without reply, with Kingston hitting the post and Ethan Krell the bar and Sam Monjack having another goal cancelled out.
HMH boss Avi Goldberg told JC Sport: “It was a more than comfortable win in the end.
"We remain very hard to beat as our defence again were superb - Moss and Monjack ran the game in midfield and it was great to see the goals flying in, seven in total, even if only four were given.”
'Nese manager Darren Lawrence told JC Sport: "We were very unfortunate to concede just before half-time but we were still very much in the game.
"A second HMH goal pretty much killed us off, after a good save from Josh Frey in goal they reacted quicker to the rebound. Ultimately, with only two subs available, our energy levels dropped and we conceded two more late goals made the scoreline flattering for them."
Lawrence went on to say: "I’m delighted with the boys today, if we can carry that performance into our other games, then I’m confident we’ll push for promotion and go far in the David Wolff Trophy.
"A special mention to Ben Halmer for playing his first game outfield in five years and did so superbly.”
