Conway leads ten-goal Lions into last eight of cup

A hat-trick from Saul Conway helped Maccabi London Lions sweep to another routine victory to set up an Invitational Cup quarter-final tie with holders Tansley, formerly Colney Heath.

GARSTON VETS LEAGUE INVITATIONAL CUP LAST 16

MACCABI LONDON LIONS 10 RAYNERS LANE 3

Rayners Lane actually started quite brightly, but the floodgates opened on 10 minutes when Conway raced clear to square for Mike Pearson to finish calmly.

The visitors equalised shortly after when Brad Lee in the Lions goal dallied on a back-pass and was dispossessed, leaving a simple tap-in.

It proved, however, just a minor setback, David Soutar cutting back inside and rifling home from 12 yards to restore the lead - a lead that was doubled within minutes when Conway’s lively start to the game saw him rewarded with a clinical low finish.

From there the game was over as a contest. Skipper Daniel Stanton finished superbly with his left foot before he guided home a delightful header after excellent work from Paul Hakim.

A cracking Pearson header was met by an even better save, but the ball came back off the bar for defender Adam Myeroff to stab home.

Midfielder Craig Pearl smashed home, Conway applied two more great finishes before in the closing stages a rocket from super-sub Max Radford flew into the top corner to complete Lions’ account for day.

Rayners Lane battled to the end, and a penalty and break-away strike were both converted to reward the visitors for their endeavours.
