articlemain

Veteran Israeli goalkeeper Dudu Awat has hung up his gloves.

Real Mallorca stopper Awat, 36, has been appointed the club’s General Manager and is set to announce that he is buying the Spanish club as the head of a consortium of Spanish businesspeople, but denies reports that Roman Abramovich is involved.

Awat who made 78 appearances for Israel, has been in Spain since 2003 when he joined Racing Santander from
Maccabi Haifa. He moved on to Deportivo La Coruna in 2006 and Mallorca in 2009.

One of Spain’s top sides, which has twice appeared in the Champions league, Mallorca finished fifth in
La Liga in 2010, but were relegated in 2013.

Awat said: "My task is to stabilize the club and get us back into the top flight. I want to help because I love the club and I love the fans. The buy-out has not been finalised, but it’s on the way."
