A world best for Peters

articlemain

David Peters this week reflected on becoming a world-record holder after helping the Central Park Track Club relay team beat the Masters (35+) 4x800m Indoor fastest time in New York.

Peters, who is 41 and from Hampstead, said: “The second runner handed me the baton at exactly four minutes, so
I knew I had to keep the momentum going. I hit 400m in a rather too swift 56 seconds, went through 600m in 1:26 and completed my leg in 2:00 exactly.

“The last 200m was very painful but I’d done enough to keep us on course.” A final time of 8:04.75 saw the previous record smashed by almost five seconds.

“I never thought I’d have the opportunity to attempt a world record, let alone break one, so this was an amazing surprise and an incredible experience to be part of,” said Peters.
