Some of the most affordable new homes in north London were in the spotlight recently, when the Mayor of Enfield, Councillor Jayne Buckland unveiled the name of the new development.

The homes, which are being built by OriginHousing at Watermill Lane, are to be called The Bloc.

The site is being redeveloped to offer 221 high-quality, contemporary affordable homes.

The scheme is designed to offer a collection of shared ownership, intermediate rent, key worker and affordable rent accommodation.

There will be one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom houses and apartments available and many of the properties are expected to be allocated to those working in the neighbouring North Middlesex University Hospital.

Construction on site is already well under way, by principal contractors Galliford Try.

The first phase of new homes is expected to be completed in January 2012. Origin Homes is yet to release prices.
