There is a way for BT landline holders to slash the cost.
While even BT’s direct debit discount landline is £11.54/month, sign up to a 12-month telephony service Primus Home Phone Saver via a comparison site and you get line rental for £9.15 a month, including free evening and weekend calls to landlines.
What’s more, the company has promised not to block access to override numbers like 18185 and Discount Dial which give substantially cheaper calls to mobiles and phones abroad – only BT is obliged to offer access to them – so this is a boon. Doing this lets you call Israel for as little as 0.5p/min, for example.
