Bag yourself a new basket

Totes are totally what you need

articlemain

To shine in the sun, just bag a basket.
Baskets are not only practical for beach and pool, but perfectly on-point for summer 22, adding a playful, boho vibe to every summer outfit — including for after-dark if you choose a mini version.
Elevated to fashion status on the Cote d’Azur in the 1930s and made covetable for a new generation by Brigitte Bardot in the 60s, baskets enjoy a “moment” every few decades. And certainly these capacious woven-straw totes are having one now —with iterations at all price-points.
The “It” baskets are by Saint Laurent, Chloe, Balenciaga, Louboutin and Loewe — whose baskets in various shapes, weaves and colours are designed in collaboration with Paula’s Ibiza. Expect to see them — and those from edgy brands such as Muun, Kilometre Paris and Heimat Atlantica — around the pool at the Marbella Club or at ritzy new hotels such as Tel Aviv’s David Kempinski or the Borgo Santandrea on Italy’s Amalfi coast.

As well as classic baskets, look out for structured ones in ‘green’ plastic (in myriad colours) by Daisy Park, as well as basket-inspired totes, such as caged leather canvas at Saint Laurent; black with butterflies at Monsoon and soft-straw with stripes or lemons at Boden.
For off-beach chic, find mini-baskets at Loewe and Balenciaga, or more affordably at Muun, Whistles, M&S and — embellished with crystals or feathers — at Zara.
