Four candidates will vie for the position of Union of Jewish Students president this year, it has been announced.

Joel Salmon from St Andrews University, Josh Seitler from London School of Economics, Jake Berger at Oxford University, and Alex Tansey from Durham University will battle it out over a 10-day campaign to win the year-long position.

This is the first time since 2007 that four candidates have competed for the role. Last year current president Hannah Brady was elected after an un-contested election.

Ms Brady said: “I am very excited that our democratic values are being strengthened and celebrated by our student body.

Having four candidates is an opportunity for all of our members to have a say and influence over the future of our union.”

Each candidate needed 10 nominations from students of different universities to run for presidency.

A hustings will be held at the UJS summit weekend at the end of the month before campaigning begins on December 4.
