Musical prayer first for girls at Immanuel

articlemain

Immanuel College in Bushey held its first service for girls last month in what is intended to be a regular activity to take place around Rosh Chodesh (the New Moon).

Danny Baigel, director of Jewish education, said: "It was refreshing to see over 80 girls attend and participate in what was an inspirational and uplifting service". It came with the musical accompaniment of keyboard, tambourines, drums and bells.

While the service incorporated key morning prayers, it did not technically represent a minyan.

"It was amazing to see so many girls from all year groups come together to daven and I look forward to leading the next girls's tefillah," Danielle Abkin, the college's head girl, said.
