One of the community’s leading educators has been honoured with a special award for her achievements in Jewish history and Holocaust education.

JW3 saluted the “outstanding contribution” of Trudy Gold, who has taught adults and children on Holocaust and anti-racist issues for more than 40 years here and abroad, including in China.

She edits the resource Lessons of the Holocaust, distributed to more than 3,000 schools, and is a founding member of the British delegation of what is now the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.

Mrs Gold is a former chief executive of the London Jewish Cultural Centre, which merged with JW3 after the latter’s opening five years ago.

JW3 chief executive Raymond Simonson presented her with the award at a fundraising lunch for the centre on Tuesday.

“We have followed on the best traditions of the LJCC by ensuring we offer high quality classes and courses taught by the very best educators in the community," he said. "And they don’t come much better than the phenomenal Trudy Gold.”

Recent classes she has taught at JW3 include “Antisemitism: the Longest Hatred” and “Jews and Gentlemen”.

“The thing I love about JW3 is the people I teach," she said. "It is about discussing ideas. Thank you to JW3 for giving us a home to continue the work."
