HERE WE GO
The biggest tournament in Jewish football kicked off in Manchester on Sunday, with 31 teams taking part in the Juefa Champions League. The men’s trophy went to Nottingham JSoc (aka Breaking Chabad), while UJS women did it for the girls. Jacob Finestein, Nottingham’s team captain, said: “The standard was excellent and it took a lot for us to come out on top. We look forward to retaining the title next year.” Would-be Ronaldos then hotfooted it over to Manchester’s Booze 4 Jews, where they flaunted their finest Peter Crouch-inspired robot moves.
LESSON LEARNED
Durham University’s Muslim Jewish Forum had a special visit from Teach First rep Tanya Minsky, who came to talk to over 15 students about the perks of a teaching career — to suit both Jewish and Muslim values. Co-organiser Ben Kasstan said the event “provoked some fascinating conversations on the need for diverse teachers that reflect the diversity of school pupils in the UK”.
BLOG AND BAKE
Most students make do with baked beans and Pot Noodle, but not so Alex Dover. The 21-year-old Liverpool undergrad is causing quite a stir with his new kosher cooking blog, Dover’s Deli, which serves up a feast of recipes for gastronomes on a student budget. “Before university, my mum gave me a crash course on how to look after myself,” says the culinary supremo. “After the washing and ironing, she taught me the basics of cooking and I’ve gone from there.” Check it out at doversdeli.blog.com.
