I MOUSTACHE A QUESTION

Movember has come and gone and the guys from the JSocs at Leeds, London and Birmingham have been proudly sporting mous-taches grown to raise money and awareness for men’s health charities. “It’s important because issues like testicular cancer and getting regular checks can be something of a taboo,” said a hirsute Joseph Hyman from Leeds’ “Team JEWMO”. Facial hair included a “Tom Selleck”, two (failed) attempts at the handle-bar, and even Wolverine-style sideburns. The question now — to shave or not to shave.

BEACHSIDE BLESSINGS

High times in Bournemouth as the JSoc joined the town’s Jewish community to celebrate the first night of Chanucah with a two-storey-high menorah overlooking the beach. Rabbi Yossie Alperowitz was raised up by crane to light the shamash and the first candle.

PARTY LIKE IT'S 139 BCE

Cambridge’s JSoc, Chabad and Chaplaincy changed history as they celebrated Chanucah with a difference: by hosting a “What if the Greeks had won?” party. Guests donned their finest Athenian togas and laurel leaves to ponder what would have happened if the oil had run out and the Greeks had tri-umphed. JSoc president Stephanie Posner said: “It was a special end to what has been a fantastic term”. Oopah for Chanucah!

HELLO, GOOD BUY

The decision by Leeds Uni’s Essentials shop to start
selling kosher food has gone down well with the locals. “Within the first day many of the products sold out,”
said JSoc president Mitchell Cohen. Every little helps.
