After an impressively eccentric campaign — which included writing his “personifesto” in crayon, playing the guitar during hustings and pledging double beds for all — geography student Louis Trup stormed the ballots to be declared Oxford University’s new student union president. Upon hearing the news, his immediate response was: “What just happened?”, or rather more emphatic words to that effect.

ISRAEL TASTY

Birmingham’s chocoholics rejoiced last Tuesday when UJS rolled into town for a tasty evening of Israeli chocolate-sampling. Students heard about the country’s longstanding choco love affair, which began when manufacturer Elite set up its first factory in 1934, before being invited to dig into the sweet treats on offer. On the night, UJS president Joe Tarsh expressed a particular interest in Elite’s most popular brand — or, as he put it, “it was all about the Pesek Zman”.
