During the checks, aimed at preventing the smuggling of Torah scrolls into the women’s section, some activists were ordered to remove their coats and scarves. Women who objected to the search were refused entry.
The checks were ordered by the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, run by the strictly-Orthodox rabbi of the Western Wall, Shmuel Rabinovitch.
