V Magen David Adom UK has reached its ambitious target of donating 70 medicycles to Israel, marking the 70th anniversary of its independence.
Launched in January, the “70-for-70” campaign has brought in £1 million for Israel’s national medical emergency charity and the funding is in addition to the UK support group’s existing commitments. It has been achieved through donations, appeals and sponsored activities.
The anniversary drive has seen communities, schools, marathon runners and even a golf club raising funds to buy a vehicle in their name.
Around two dozen of the medicycles have been dedicated in Israel.
In June, a bike was presented to British ambassador David Quarrey to mark Prince William’s historic visit to Israel.
MDA UK chief executive Daniel Burger said: “It is incredible that the target was reached and that the whole community got behind the campaign, enabling Magen David Adom to save even more lives in Israel.”
As a non-governmental organisation, MDA depends on funding from communities across the world.
