A report issued by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon accusing the IDF of attacking seven UNRWA schools in the Gaza Strip during the conflict last summer has prompted a muted response from Israel.
According to the report, 44 Palestinians were killed and 227 injured in the attacks. The report also detailed three cases in which UNRWA schools had been used by terror organisations to store weapons during the conflict.
In a covering letter released on Monday, Mr Ban said that it was "a matter of the utmost gravity" and that the UNRWA schools must be "inviolable".
An official response from the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem emphasised that the cases featuring in the report had already been probed by the IDF's own legal corps and that a number were being investigated as criminal matters.
The Israeli government said that it was prepared to work with UNRWA in the future in order to prevent the use of UN facilities by terrorist organisations.
