The Union of Jewish Students has taken steps to strengthen its cultural ties with Israel.

New initiatives include a YouTube channel with an Israeli cooking programme filmed in the demonstration kitchen at the UJS new base at JW3 in London.

It is also planning a series of concerts on campus by famous Israeli band Hadag Nachash.

New president Joe Tarsh said: “Political action is an important part of our Israel engagement but we’re also saying we can connect in a cultural sense, a social sense, in an emotional way.”

Supporting this wave of activity will be an Israel engagement officer, as well as a part time sheliach (emissary) - both newly created posts. They will work in partnership with a new Jewish Agency shlicha for students.

“All three of those roles did not exist last year”, said Mr Tarsh.

The season of cultural events will kick off with a Party in the Park in London on September 11, with food and music, and an expected 250 guests.
