A surprise party was held in honour of a popular university chaplain's decade of service.

Rabbi Gavin Broder has spent the past 10 years working to help thousands of Jewish students in London.

More than 120 current and former students took part in the evening, held in Golders Green earlier this month.

They reminisced about weekends away arranged by "Rav Gav" and Shabbat meals in the Broder family home.

Ian Kamiel, University Jewish Chaplaincy chief executive, said: "The tributes he received are testament to the fantastic work Rabbi Broder has done."

Presentations were made by a number of organisations. In a video message Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks described Rabbi Broder as "a national asset".

Rabbi Broder said he was "shocked and surprised" by the party.
