A group of British students toured Israel as part of a trip to complete a year-long education course.

The Stand With Us UK fellowship programme was launched in January and introduces students to leading figures in diplomacy, academia and education. The participants are trained to become advocates for Israel and to challenge misconceptions in the media.

During the week-long visit they saw Israel’s security fence, a West Bank checkpoint, the city of Ariel and an IDF army base.

Among the figures students met were Israeli soldiers, Foreign Ministry officials, journalists and Palestinians.

Gili Brenner, Stand With Us UK executive, said: “Nothing compares to seeing the reality on the ground. The most powerful educational tool is bringing students to Israel to see and hear for themselves, to meet Israelis and experience what life in the country is actually like.

"I am thrilled that this talented and well-informed group of future leaders has now joined the 700-strong Stand With Us family in Israel.”

Shlomie Liberow, a student at Goldsmiths, University of London, said: “The programme has a great sense of impartiality by presenting talks and tours from both ends of the political spectrum which greatly aided my understanding of Israel.”

Stand With Us will hold its third annual UK conference in London on October 21.
