Belsize Square Synagogue is working towards a major redevelopment funded partly by the incorporation of a small number of residential units. Initial plans will be on show at a public exhibition at the north London shul next week.

The proposal is to replace the existing hall with a multi-use area.

There will also be new open space, intended to improve the appearance of the building. The intention is that the enhanced facilities will be made available to the wider population - the existing hall is a regular venue for local community meetings and groups, as well as being used as a polling station.

Final plans and costings will be formulated after the consultation.

Shul co-chair John Abramson said that "to continue our rich heritage in Belsize Square, we would like to improve our facilities. We very much look forward to meeting local residents to explain the proposals."
