On Valentine’s Day, we reflect on the many forms of love and the actions it inspires. For Jewish Child’s Day (JCD), love is more than just a sentiment – it’s a commitment to care for children who need JCD most. More than a year after the devastating events in Israel on October 7, JCD continues to step up, just as it has for 77 years. This dedication to children in need is at the heart of its work.

life-changing support

Each year, Jewish Child’s Day supports more than 130 projects, reaching more than 25,000 children. Since October 7, the charity has awarded over £360,000 in grants to help children affected by the war. These funds have supported 75 charities tackling critical needs, including trauma therapy and safe accommodation for disabled children who have been left homeless.

Adele Busse, head of grants, says: “The effects of the war will continue for a long time, and we want to be there to help as many children as possible for as long as they need us. But we can only do what our donors enable us to do. The more money we receive, the more we can direct to where it is most needed.”

Impact of donations

The children supported by Jewish Child’s Day face unimaginable challenges. Many live with disabilities, emotional difficulties or trauma, and the war has only deepened their struggles. Thanks to donor support, Jewish Child’s Day has been able to respond swiftly. Recent examples include:

  • Medical scooters for children with severe disabilities, giving them the freedom to move independently.
  • Mobile patient lifts to safely transport young children to shelters during emergencies.
  • Scholarships for disadvantaged children to access education and unlock brighter futures.
  • After-school enrichment programmes that nurture learning and creativity.
  • Therapies for children with cancer.
  • Musical therapy sessions that help children find joy and healing.
  • Every project demonstrates the transformative power of love, giving children the tools and support to heal, grow and thrive.

United in giving

During Chanukah, JCD celebrated its National Day of Giving, a landmark event encouraging the Jewish community to unite in love and generosity. The funds they raised this year will go directly to supporting additional projects in Israel, ensuring children receive the care and resources they desperately need. “We continue to receive requests every day and our ability to respond depends on the community’s generosity – it is as simple as that,” says Anthea Jackson, JCD executive director. “The immediate need to deliver support to the most vulnerable children is our priority.”
