Zevi Saunders hailed Crumpsall’s performance as their ‘best of the season’ following a shock 5-2 win over South Manchester SC 2nd in the Shonn Trophy.
Crumpsall are well known as the ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ of the MJSL, but they were always in control in a wind-affected clash with South.
Dan Rose scored twice, while Ben Silverman, Ben Kayser and Frenchie Freedman rounded off the win.
And player-manager Saunders, who played a starring role in defence, says his team fully deserved their victory.
“It was our best performance of the season,” he said.
“I’ve said it so many times, that when we get our first-choice team out there, we’re a match for anybody in the league.
“We’re consistently inconsistent, but we played some very good football in very difficult conditions.
“We dominated possession and their keeper made three or four fantastic saves.
“I’m really happy with the performance and hopefully we can continue that in the league against Republic of Mancunia 1st on Sunday.”
Crumpsall will face either Republic of Mancunia 1st or Broughton in the second round of the Shonn Trophy.
