The outside managers brought in to revive the fortunes of Leeds care home Donisthorpe Hall are unsurprised by the latest damning report from the Care Quality Commission.
Relating to an inspection in March - before the Bam Healthcare management team was recruited - it found the home inadaquate in three categories and requiring improvement in two. The overall rating was "requires improvement". The CQC team spoke to 18 residents, 11 relatives and 21 staff.
In conjunction with existing staff and volunteers, the Bam team is working to effect change.
Yvonne Gosset, Bam's chief operating officer and a former CQC inspector, said that improvements would take time. "We can't do that in a week."
Staff recruitment was continuing with the appointment of two new care managers, nurses and carers. Regular meetings had been introduced to improve communication with staff.
"We have reviewed key systems around medications and care records and are tailoring training packages to ensure that staff feel competent to use these systems appropriately."
Staff were keen to get things right and felt vulnerable if their training had been insufficient. "Our view is to identify the issues and support them rather than poke fingers and blame. It must never be a blame culture."
