Pinner Synagogue members held a double celebration on Sunday, marking Israel’s 60th birthday and the 60th anniversary of the congregation’s affiliation to the United Synagogue.
Guest speakers included Board of Deputies president Henry Grunwald, United Synagogue interim chief executive Stuart Taylor and the Israel Embassy’s Ronit Ben Dor. Entertainment was by Masters of the House, four stars of West End musicals with backing instrumentalists.
Around £5,000 was raised from the evening, which was organised by vice-chair Howard Freeman and a committee headed by Stephen Collins and Debra Levin.
Aside from a donation to a Jerusalem soup kitchen, the money will go towards a refurbishment programme for Pinner’s 25-year-old synagogue building, currently in use up to 15 hours a day, seven days a week.
