Flyers promoting Holocaust denial were distributed at two Scottish universities this week.
A statement on Edinburgh University JSoc’s Facebook page said around 100 leaflets were found in campus buildings and on cars parked at the university.
The leaflets were quickly removed by members of Edinburgh University Student Association and the police notified.
The statement, posted by JSoc chair Brianna Sommer, said: “It was reported yesterday that around 100 Holocaust denying leaflets were distributed throughout George Square and inside campus buildings, found on bulletin boards and placed on car windshields. We greatly appreciate EUSA and fellow students for their swift action in helping to remove these antisemitic flyers and for notifying University of Edinburgh’s security about this matter. This anti-Semitic event has also been reported to the Community Security Trust (CST). Police Scotland have also been alerted to the event and will hopefully launch an investigation. Gavin Douglas, Deputy Secretary, as well as the Chaplaincy have kept us informed on the matter and will continue to do so if more information comes to light.
“The person(s) who dispersed these flyers will be held accountable for their shameful actions if/when caught. Please note that it is of dire importance to always report any antisemitic behaviour to the University, which you can do so anonymously: http://www.eusa.ed.ac.uk/support_and_advice/the_advice_place/harassment_and_complaints.
“As well as reporting to CST: https://cst.org.uk/antisemitism/report-antisemitism.”
Edinburgh student union vice-president for academic affairs Imogen Wilson tweeted a photo of one of the flyers titled “The greatest swindle of all time”.
At Glasgow University, Jewish student Marcell Horvath said similar flyers were found in campus buildings.
