I had a piece in yesterday's Times on the squalor of West End theatres. On Sunday night I saw that it's not just the West End. I went to see Sarah Silverman at the Hammersmith Apollo. What a total dump. It's filthy, and makes the West End seem like paradise.
Before we were allowed in, they kept us waiting for an hour beyond the advertised time. The foyer was a crush; and they told us that if we tried to go outside and come in again when the doors were at last opened, we would not be allowed back in. Bar profiteering again.
And, by the way, she was awful. I walked out after half an hour. It turns out she only did another twenty minutes anyway, and there was uproar from the audience. The tickets were over
