Uri Avnery: Desmond Tutu and Neve Gordon.

V.interesting article from Uri Avnery. He is correct to point out some of the differences between SA and Israel.

I add the following:

From the perspective of SA’s “Left”, Israel’s destruction is the harbinger to the defeat of capitalism and “colonialism”. It is ideological rather than logical and there is an inherent danger in believing that their various strategies and views are coherent.

With regard to the “New SA”, a deal was cut between the ANC elite and the white owned big corporations. Both sides realized that it was in their interests to share the substantial cake. However, many whites have since left SA and white farmers are being murdered on a daily basis; Zim is just up the road.

The situation in Israel is quite different for a multiplicity of reasons. Most Israeli Jews are not intending to leave the country. At this stage, they (other than a politically insignificant minority) are not going to hand it over to the Palestinians.

The less said about people’s obsession with smiling Desmond Tutu the better.
