What better to get the foodie in your life for Chanukah than a book with some of the best recipes of the year?

Joan Nathan’s books are always packed with interesting facts and stories and her recipes, gathered from around the world are interesting and eclectic.

2. Shannon Sarna, Modern Jewish Baker
Sarna - the editor of Jewish food blog, The Nosher — runs through each of our basic bakes, teaching readers to make challah, babka, bagels and other festival favourites like hamantaschen. I loved the twists she gave for each one, bringing them up to the 21st Century.

3. Deb Perelman, Smitten Kitchen Every Day
I’m a huge fan of New York-based Deb Perelman’s food blog, Smitten Kitchen. This book did not disappoint with her beautifully shot food and interesting narrative.

4. Nigella Lawson, At my table
I want to hate Nigella but her food is just so good. I’ve already cooked from this book — a fabulous chicken dish based on frozen peas, which, with almost no effort turned magically into petits pois a la Francaise. A blondie pudding was also scrape-the-bowl-clean good.

5. Leah Koenig, The little book of Jewish Appetisers
A very cute book filled with Koenig’s twists on classic dishes. The borscht crostini make a great canape for the festive season.
