UFree is "an independent European human rights network based in Norway, Oslo. This network is the first specialized network in Europe to promote and defend the rights of the Palestinian prisoners and detainees."
Last week UFree issued the following press release on behalf of Mohammed Hamden, the Chair of UFree that included the following statements:
""The Chair of UFree, Mohammed Hamdan, who is based in Oslo, noted that amongst the reasons for the attacks was the intent to compromise Norway’s foreign policy on Palestine, which was high on the agenda at the youth camp of the Labour camp – a target of the attack.
In contrast, the person arrested for the attacks is a member of the ‘Progressive Party’ – which is known for its extreme views and its strong advocacy for the state of Israel.
Hamdan said ‘It has become known to the world that supporters of Israel are the real threat to world security and peace – they are the real source of terrorism’.""
Not to be outdone, a few days later the Iranian news agency, Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA) slanted UFree's press release to read:
""Israel behind Norway massacre, Israel and its supporters are the real source of terrorism: Ufree
(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The European network for the defense of Palestinian prisoners' rights (UFree) strongly denounced the terrorist attacks in Norway and accused Israel of being behind what happened on Friday.
"The world knows now that Israel, its friends and supporters are the real threat to the world's security and peace and the real source of terrorism," UFree stated in a press release.
It noted that Norwegian foreign minister Jonas Gahr Store visited one day before the attack the youth camp that was organized by the ruling labor party and discussed with the participants the Palestinian cause and the ways to break Israel's blockade on Gaza.
During this meeting, Norwegian young men and women lifted Palestinian flags and banners against Israel, the thing which places a question mark over the party that has the motive to carry out such attacks on Friday, UFree underlined.""
It's been written that when a person dies, his or her spirit lives in those who remember. As a Jew our tradition is very specific in providing us with ways of remembering our loved ones. In addition, our tradition does not allow us to forget those who have died. Finding an appropriate way of honouring and remembering the dead is one of the goals of the mourning process.
The UFree and Iranian ABNA statements do not reflect words of comfort for the mourners, but a sickness that permeates through many organizations that take personal advantage of people's sorrow and grief.
Personally, I have only one thing to say to UFree and ABNA. It is this: "A pox on both your houses!"
