The JC has been leading the campaign for the next Chief Rabbi to be elected. The United Synagogue has now decided on a different path. But it has plainly taken on board some of the recommendations reflected in our coverage such as including women in the decision-making process and spreading the consultation as widely as is practicable.
US president Stephen Pack was even ready to invite the non-Orthodox denominations - a generous offer, though one unlikely to be taken up. Now the race is genuinely on, and the field wide open. May the best rabbi win.
