It is a rare proposal that links the TUC, the Board of Deputies, the Electoral Commission and the CST in opposition. But the Transparency of Lobbying Bill is so clumsy, unnecessary and counter-productive a bill that it is not surprising that has united almost every group involved in lobbying MPs and ministers.
There may be some hyperbole in the analyses which suggest some Jewish organisations could cease to function altogether if the bill becomes law. But this is nonetheless one of the worst drafted, most poorly thought through bills ever to be brought forward by a government. It must be dropped.
