Dear Reader,

Today we are pleased to announce an exciting new chapter in The Jewish Chronicle’s 183-year history by welcoming our new Editor, Daniel Schwammenthal.

Daniel joins us here at the world’s oldest Jewish newspaper from the American Jewish Committee’s Transatlantic Institute in Brussels where he served as its director. As a German-born veteran journalist and editor who covered European politics for more than a decade, including recently with the Wall Street Journal, he is highly regarded for the quality of his journalism and for upholding the highest professional standards.

Our new Editor’s tenure kicks off with the launch of a new-look website and print rebrand that revives The Jewish Chronicle’s historic banner. The new website is packed with new features and will include the Editor’s top selections in news, commentary and Jewish communal life, refreshed throughout the day.

Coinciding with the paper’s new look in print and digital, you will notice that we have revamped our membership scheme for our readers. In addition to receiving exclusive stories and unlimited access to digital content, subscribers will be invited to a series of events to engage the community and promote the continued flourishing of Jewish life in Britain.

We thank Jake Wallis Simons, who served as editor for four years and whose stewardship guided the paper during a tumultuous period for the Jewish community. He has decided to step down to focus on his next book on how the West betrayed the Jews and its own values, which will be published in September. We are delighted he will continue at the JC as a columnist, along with Stephen Pollard who will transition from Editor-at-large to writing a column for the paper.

Ahead of this exciting new era for the Jewish Chronicle and its readers, we want to thank you for your continued support and we look forward to serving and strengthening our community for many more years to come.

Sincerely,

Lord Austin of Dudley & Jonathan Kandel

Directors, Jewish Chronicle
