According to a new pamphlet compiled by interfaith consultant Zaki Cooper, religious communities feel increasingly estranged from aspects of British culture.
Mr Cooper, 31, is the co-editor of Faith in the Nation, a collection of essays on national identity by faith leaders, published by the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR).
Gordon Brown has written the foreword and contributors include Dr John Sentamu, Archbishop of York; Chief Rabbi Sir Jonathan Sacks and Dr Indarjit Singh, director of the Network of Sikh Organisations.
Mr Cooper tells People: “It’s a contribution to a key debate in the UK. If the major faiths don’t work out ways of talking to each other and having a mature dialogue with the rest of society, then we’re all in trouble.”
Mr Cooper, who works full time as director of the Business for New Europe think-tank — which counts Sir Martin Sorrell as an adviser - has been working on the pamphlet for two years.
Former head of external relations for the Chief Rabbi, he is an adviser to the Tony Blair Faith Foundation.
