Businesswoman Yvonne Benjamin will take to the catwalk next week to help raise money for Breast Cancer Care.

Ms Benjamin, who was diagnosed and successfully treated for breast cancer in 2007, has been selected to be a model at Breast Cancer Care’s London fashion show.

The two shows, which take place on Wednesday, aim to celebrate life after diagnosis and are expected to raise more than £500,000.

London-based Ms Benjamin, 47, who sits on the fashion show committee of Breast Cancer Care, tells People: “Personally, I didn’t need to use their services but I have heard of a lot of people who have and they offer very helpful provision.”

A business consultant with a background in media and marketing communications, she is one of 27 models taking part in the show. “I am really looking forward to it. I am interested in speech and drama and I used to go to dance classes, so being in the show appeals to my creative side. It will be a very powerful experience and a way to demonstrate a very positive mental attitude.”

She says: “When you get a diagnosis of any cancer, or any illness, it is not your choice but you do have a choice of how to deal with it and how to move forward. Having cancer has reinforced my inner-strength. I used humour to get through it.”

The event will feature a performance by top singer songwriter Beverley Craven, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005. Among the guests are celebrities Geri Halliwell, Lisa Snowdon, Vanessa Feltz, Danielle Bux, Meera Syal and Gloria Hunniford.
