Yachad Youth, the youth division of the liberal Zionist Yachad group, has launched a campaign to raise money for a lawyer to represent Palestinian minors questioned by Israeli military authorities.
The Kids Court in Conflict initiative aims to ensure all West Bank Palestinians under the age of 18 have access to legal representation.
Campaigners seek to raise £26,000 to pay for an 'on-call emergency lawyer to represent young people from the moment they are arrested".
According to Yachad Youth, the Kids Court in Conflict team is made up of around 30 graduates and members of Zionist youth movements.
The campaigners said: "As young Zionist leaders from across the Jewish community in Britain, we want to see a Jewish, democratic and peaceful Israel thrive. We believe supporting people working to improve the situation for young people is the highest expression of our Jewish and Zionist values. It is also a way for us to reach out across divides, something that is important in the pursuit of peace."
Yachad lobbies for a two-state solution to the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. The group caused controversy recently when its application to join the Board of Deputies was approved, with some critics claiming the group was anti-Israel.
