A large arms cache has been discovered by Czech authorities at the residence of the Palestinian ambassador in Prague, Jamel al-Jamal, who was killed on Wednesday when a safe exploded in his home.

Czech media outlets report that the weapons stock, obtained illegally, was big enough to arm a squad of 10 men.

Initially, Palestinian Authority Foreign Minister, Riad Malki, said the safe had not been used for the past 20 years and the circumstances of the ambassador's death were not suspicious.

However, later it emerged that the safe was in fact in use on a daily basis, according to a Palestinian Authority spokesman.

Mr Al Jamal was a diplomat in Egypt and Bulgaria before becoming ambassador in Prague in October 2013.
