Two US lawmakers from both sides of the aisle presented a bill late last week to launch a $50m fund to promote peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
The bill, called the International Fund for Israeli-Palestinian Peace Authorisation Act of 2015, was presented by Republican Jeff Fortenberry and Democrat Joe Crowley.
In a statement, Mr Crowley said: "The US has played a significant leadership role in fostering and supporting people-to-people relations around the world, and creating this fund would continue this effort."
Accusations regarding politically-motivated foreign funding plagued the Israeli election.
In late February, Israel's Central Elections Committee rejected a Likud party petition against V15, a grassroots left-wing group with the stated mission of replacing Benjamin Netanyahu.
Likud MKs accused the Zionist Union of receiving illegal donations through the group, which they denied.
V15 did receive funding from US Jewish billionaire S Daniel Abraham, who said that he did not support or fund any political party.
