October 18, 2023 12:39An NYU student has apologised for ripping down posters of Israeli hostages, blaming her 'misplaced anger' at the situation in the Middle East
Yazmeen Deyhimi was caught on camera taking down the posters alongside two other people.
In a statement posted on Instagram, she said: “I have found it increasingly difficult to know my place as a biracial brown woman, especially during these highly volatile times.
“I have felt more and more frustrated about the time we currently find ourselves in, and that misplaced anger into actions that are not an accurate representation of who I am as a person.”
“In this age of social media and digital footprint, these moments of anger are selfish and self-absorbed, and not reflective of who I am as a person or who my family had raised me to be.”
A petition calling for NYU to punish her racked up more than 4,000 signatures after the video was posted on social media.
It read: “Our fear as Jewish students is valid, and the university needs to create an environment where all students feel safe and respected.
“NYU has a responsibility to take action against any form of discrimination, including antisemitism, in line with its zero-tolerance policy.”
It came as three more women were caught on video ripping down the posters at NYU.

A man was videoed ripping down posters at the University of Pennsylvania.

And a video, also from the University of Pennsylvania that has just surfaced from a march on October 7, shows students calling for a ‘Jewish genocide’.
