The Madrid branch of Izquierda Unida (United Left) tweeted an antisemitic image of US President Barack Obama locked in an embrace with a Jewish man. Mr Obama is due to arrive in Spain for a state visit on July 10.

Mr Obama was portrayed as taking money from the Jewish man, who was shown with a beard and sidecurls, wearing a skullcap, and sporting a Star of David on and an arm patch with a dollar sign.

United Left is a far-left coalition in Spain; they currently have only two members of congress, but claim to have a membership numbering 70,000.

When called out for antisemitism, the party’s twitter account responded by alleging that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had visited a patient in an Israeli hospital who was an Daesh fighter, thereby proving that Israel backed the Islamic terror group.
