Actor Seth Rogan has announced that he is to arrange a barmitzvah ceremony for fellow film star James Franco to raise money for charity.
"Ever since I’ve known James, he’s been talking about wanting a barmitzvah,” Rogen said.
Franco – whose mother is Jewish – has said in the past: "I do feel like I missed out on the Jewish experience. My Jewish friends tell me not to worry… but I like the idea of religion as a source of community."
He also told the JC in an interview in 2011 : “I do plan to have a barmitzvah."
The ceremony will be held as part of a variety show put on by Hilarity for Charity – a charity set up by Rogan and his wife, Lauren Miller Rogen to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease.
Miller Rogen’s mother was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s.
The charity’s previous events have raised several hundred thousand pounds and have featured famous faces such as Paul Rudd, Bruno Mars and Judd Apatow.
Rogen said: “We’re excited to see James finally become a man while also helping us raise awareness and funds for people living with Alzheimer’s and towards research that will lead to a cure”.
And he joked: “In celebration we’ll also have a mohel and a live bris for James at the event.”
