More than two years after relationship between Israel and Turkey soured in the wake of the clashes over the Gaza flotilla, the British government is attempting to rebuild ties between them.

According to Haaretz, which spoke to an Israeli official, British envoys have been acting as go-between for Israel and Turkey for several weeks, delivering messages from the leaders of both.

The attempt by Britain to strengthen stability in the region, especially given the ongoing fighting in Syria, has also seen David Cameron speak directly to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Five days later,
Mr Cameron met Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan at Downing Street and it is thought the two discussed the impasse with Israel.

Neither the British Embassy in Israel or Mr Netanyahu's office commented
on the claims.

Turkey and Israel once enjoyed a warm relationship, but reconciliation has stalled over Turkey's demand for an Israeli apology over the Mavi Marmara deaths.
