Fans of the hit Israeli Netflix series Fauda may breathe a sigh of relief as filming began on the fourth installment of the show this week in Israel.

The 10-episode season will take cast members to filming locations in Ukraine and throughout Israel and see the team battle to contain threats from Lebanon and the West Bank.

New recruits will include The Crown actor Amir Boutrous - who plays Egyptian leader Gamal Abdel Nasser in the drama series - and Lucifer actress Inbar Lavi.

The upcoming season, expected to premiere in Israel next year and be available for streaming on Netflix, will make Fauda Israel’s longest-running action series.

Speaking in 2019, show co-creator Avi Issacharoff said current events in Israel often inspire ideas for the series, but what is even “weirder is when the things we write about in the show happen in real life. That has happened to the team and it is very strange.”

He said he “wished” the show acted as an educational tool for people who wanted to “open their mind” and get a better understanding of the conflict, but “mostly people treat it as it is intended, which is entertainment.”

He also said it was important for the series to retain its “authenticity”, particularly in the way characters speak in both Hebrew and Arabic.

“To understand the conflict you have to listen to both sides of it in their own language,” he said.
