Six years of legal wrangling ended this week when legendary music producer Phil Spector was found guilty of the murder of cocktail hostess Lana Clarkson.

This was Spector’s second trial. The first ended with the jury unable to reach a verdict.

He was remanded to jail immediately, having previously been on a $1 million bail bond.

Ms Clarkson was found at Spector’s gothic-style mansion with a gunshot wound to the mouth. Spector did not testify at either trial. His only comment came in a quote given to Esquire: “She kissed the gun.”

Spector came from a working-class Jewish family in the Bronx, New York, son of a steelworker who committed suicide when his son was nine.

He had a difficult relationship with his mother, Bertha, whose instinct was to smother him — at the height of his success she would come his studio every day, bringing him an un-requested packed lunch.
