US President Barack Obama has stressed that the US and Israel must try new tactics to create peace in the new Middle East landscape.

Addressing a crowd of Jewish supporters at a fundraising dinner, he said: “Both the United States and Israel are going to have to look at this new landscape with fresh eyes. It's not going to be sufficient for us just to keep on doing the same things.”

He told the audience, hosted by Americans In Support of a Strong US-Israel Relationship, that the next 12 months, two years and the next decade are going to be “very difficult and challenging.”

But he added that although there might be “tactical disagreements", there was “one inviolable principle that the United States and Israel will always be stalwart allies and friends. It is a robust democracy. It shares our values and it shares our principles.

"That bond isn't breakable. Israel's security will always be at the top tier of considerations in terms of how America manages its foreign policy.”

He added that he believe his administration had done the most for Israel in 25 years.
