At least 30 antisemitic incidents referencing Kanye West have been recorded by the ADL following his antisemitic tweets and comments at the end of last year.
The incidents, recorded by the antisemitism advocacy group since October include “vandalism, banner drops, targeted harassment, and campus propaganda distributions,” details the online report.
In terms of on-the-ground incidents, ADL reveals vandalism in various states, found in the vicinity of schools, a Jewish centre, a Jewish cemetery, airports, and public spaces. Amongst the vandalism were swastikas, “Defcon III”, “Kanye is right”, and “Kill All Jews” writing.
There have also been increased threats online. According to the ADL report, there have been more than 10,000 Tweets using or referencing the “Ye is Right” slogan. These posts have reached at least six million users on Twitter, garnering more than 22,000 likes and more than 5,000 retweets.
According to the ADL, “these incidents – only some of which are perpetrated by known extremists – demonstrate how references to Kanye, often paired with swastikas or other antisemitic slurs, have become mainstream shorthand for the hatred of – or a desire to commit violence against – Jewish people.”
ADL also recorded nationwide harassment incidents targeting institutions, businesses and individuals receiving antisemitic messages, phone calls, and emails. In New York’s Central park, a Jewish man was allegedly physically assaulted while the attacker yelled “Fuck you, Jew!” and “Kanye 2024”. In other instances, Jewish students were verbally harassed and bullied at schools and a Jewish family was threatened outside of a synagogue.
West’s extensive antisemitic rants included praising Hitler on a conspiracy theorist TV channel Infowars, as well as tweeting a picture Star of David inside a swastika and saying he will go “death con 3 on Jewish people”.
West was dropped by Adidas, GAP, and Balenciaga and was also suspended from Twitter and Instagram.
