An Israeli man has been shot dead by Ukrainian troops in what's believed to be a tragic case of mistaken identity.
Roman Brodsky, a 38-year-old Israeli DJ with Ukrainian heritage, was travelling in a convoy from Kyiv to the Moldovan border on his way back to Israel.
In an interview, Mr. Brodsky's father told reporters that his son was killed at a Ukrainian army checkpoint when soldiers mistakenly believed he was a Chechen militant.
Despite his death being cause by Ukrainian soldiers, Mr. Brodsky's parents said they blamed Vladimir Putin for their son's death, branding the Russian leader a "dictator."
The Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett gave his condolences to the family of Mr. Brodsky, believed to be the first Israeli killed in Ukraine since the Russian invasion started last week.
In a statement, the Prime Minister said: “In the name of all Israeli citizens, I want to send my condolences to Roman’s wife, children and family in Israel and in Ukraine. We are doing everything to help Israelis return home.”
