Israel fighter jets have conducted an air strike in western Syria, close to the Lebanese border.

Lebanese media reported that Syria fired anti-aircraft missiles at the Israeli aircraft in response. There were no reports of planes being shot down.

The strike site was south of the city of Homs, a city held by the Assad regime but close to a rebel stronghold area.

There were conflicting reports over the target of strike, with Hezbollah sources claiming it was a weapons depot.

The Reuters news agency quoted a military commander in the Assad regime as saying a copper factory was hit.
