The Israeli army has suspended the officer in charge during an incident filmed on video in which two journalists were seemingly assaulted by IDF soldiers in the West Bank.
Soldiers appeared to assault two Agence France Presse journalists, steal their equipment and destroy it.
Italian video journalist Andrea Bernardi and Palestinian photographer Abbas Momani were covering clashes between Palestinians and Israeli soldiers in Beit Furik after a funeral.
Soldiers appeared to shove them and point weapons at them. Mr Bernardi was thrown to the ground and had a knee pushed on his chest until he showed his press card.
The journalists had previously been authorised to enter the area and were identifiable from their body armour marked “press” and their equipment.
The soldiers were seen to smash a video and a stills camera and to confiscate another stills camera and mobile phone.
The incident was filmed and posted online by a local production company.
On Friday evening the army told AFP it had identified those involved and that disciplinary measures would be taken.
Badly damaged equipment was returned to AFP on Saturday, but the memory cards had been removed.
